New things I've been working on!

soo yeah it's been a little bit longer than I'd like. I have been working very hard, any many numerous projects, and here they are:

Battle Royal! (sorry for the not great photo)

And this one is probably my favorite, my little flapper.

Also I got tattooed by Mr. Brad Mariachi who was a guest artist at 323 Tattoos. Here is his fantastic little piece on me

Okay, so it’s been a while

I’ve got nothing in the way of art going on right now. But soon! I am finally going on my “grand adventure” so there will be a lot more coming of me creatively. Tomorrow I’ll be moving into my new location, and thus to the new position of tattoo apprentice. Very exciting. And also making me incredibly nervous. But I just have to remember that I’m gonna be great at it. It’s going to be fun. It’s something I’m doing for me, not anyone else, for me. It’s been a long time coming. It feels like for the past 4 years, I’ve done hardly anything for myself. It really is time. I feel a change.

So yesterday I finished a dress I was working on. It went actually really fast and I am super happy with it. I wanted to make this dress after seeing some inspiration on the Anthropologie website. Gorgeous dress, a little pricey. So here's the dress they're selling.

Cute, right? For a total amount of $25, I made this:

With a few modifications, a different neck line, and a ribbon belt. Took about 3 and a half yards of cotton jersey, and a total of 6 packages of hem tape (navy ribbon).
I loved figuring out the circle skirt. I used this tutorial, http://andreatung.blogspot.com/2006/04/diy-circle-skirts.html

Sorry there was a bit of a break in there. Aaron and I took a little weekend trip to San Francisco. And before that I was still working on things, just not taking the time to do he blog thing.
I've mostly been working on more flash for Jason, and a bit of other things, doodling, sewing a backpack and a few other items of clothing.
The trip to SF was AMAZING. Had so much fun, took lots of pictures. You can go check them out on my Flickr.

Okay so now is time for the art

Finished Paintings!

Alright! I finally finished my girls! I mean they weren't too terribly delayed, but I did take a break from them for a while to do other projects. I don't really have a great title for them yet. I know I don't have too many readers yet but I'm open for suggestions! When I started them I thought that I going to do something a little different with their hair, maybe something dark like patent leather straps. But you know, I really love them just simple like this. They feel a little more elegant

I want to start some giant panels that I've had since I got to Nevada. They're these huge 2ft by 4ft ghostly white monstrosities staring back at my when I go into my studio room. I *think* I know what to do with them, it's just such a big task that I don't want to dive into it just yet. It's a little scary! I've never done anything that big..... so...
erp. I have to do them though.

Here's a pic of me in the process. Working on some more flash in my studio room.

Trio and Tattoo News

Today I'm working on some more flash for Jason. Just some moths and butterflies, Sailor Jerry style. I sent him the ones I finished and he had some very kind words to say about them! He said he had to do a triple take on the ladies, and his wife mentioned I'm already better than the guys who worked in his old shop (as professionals). It really gives me motivation to keep going with flash and making them the cleanest possible watercolors. Jason gave me some great references today to really educate myself on the tradition and history of tattooing.

On to other things. I've been working on my trio of ladies, and I've got the base colors down and they're starting to look really nice. They're going to be striking when they're finished. I'm really in love with how the red orange vibrates off of the mint tones.

Ladies and Owl...

Alright, so on to something a bit different. I did mention that I'm starting a tattoo apprenticeship relatively soon. My mentor has given me little assignments to prepare, and get some techniques down. I like doing them, they're a different style. It's also kind of therapeutic doing something that's more for technique than art. I think Jason is happy with my progress, he doesn't say too much but he gives an heir of "wow, someone who's actually trained in something...."

Stripey Dress

I just finished making this dress, I'm so excited for it to get warmer here so I can wear it! I really love how this turned out. Again, a bargain at Wal-Mart. I know that's terrible. I got 4 yards of this fabric for 6 dollars. I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do with it when I bought it but I just really liked it.

I was watching project runway, the last episode, before the finale, someone had used a stripe fabric and had pleated it so the darker stripe was solid, and the the bright stripe peeps out under the pleats. So that's what I did with this. The amount of pleats I had to accomplish was astonishing. More than 200 pleats later:

The rest of the design, I don't really know what inspired it. It was just fun to figure the pattern out. I LOVE the backless part of it. It was wicked easy too, and I didn't need to buy a ridiculously long zipper to go up the back.

trio - progress

I've been working on this concept in my head for a little while. I got these cute little 5" x 7" wood panels at Wal-Mart for 97 cents each! I really wanted to do something similar to some paintings I did a while ago. But different of course. Check out my flickr, it's the three girls with the big pink bouffants. They recently got stolen, so that sorta sucks.

I'm really in love how these are coming out though.

I don't know which one is my favorite, ha ha!

Momi

I finished this about a week ago. This was originally a doodle I had done in the hospital while waiting for Aaron to be done with his job interview. I think I had done this back in January. I was recently scanning my doodles into the computer and Aaron suggested that I redo it on panel and really get it rendered and gorgeous. He was totally right.
So here's the original,

This is the start of the drawing on panel,

more progress....

And the final product yay!

I'm really glad I turned it into a painting. It was a good warm up painting for me, and it started me on a good road to other paintings. So keep an eye out, they're coming soon!

First Post....

Okay so, this is my first post. I guess by this blog my main aim is to explore my art in a new way. Take you through the process, and my thoughts, feelings, whatevers I'm doing while I'm painting or drawing. I also want to share my other numberless hobbies and projects. Maybe a tutorial or two. I have also been accepted to do a tattoo apprenticeship with my long time friend and fantastic tattoo artist, Jason Fancher. I would like to share my adventure through that as well. It's gonna be good.
Basically you'll find a mish-mash of all things arty, crafty, fashion, tattoos, and a little of me.
So welcome to my blog!
